MILAN 54 LAUNCHES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The Milan Museum operates on donations. We appreciate any donations individuals or companies are willing to give us.

On April 1, 2011 Milan 54 launched our capital campaign to raise the $375,000.00 needed to renovate the new location of the Milan 54 Museum. The museums' new location will be in the former "State Bank of Milan" building located on Carr Street in downtown Milan. Construction is slated to begin the spring of 2012. Major grants awarded to Milan 54 so far include:

  • July 2011:
  • Rising Sun Foundation - $50,000.00
  • August 2011
  • City of Lawrenceburg - $50,000.00

Remember the Game?
No discussion of basketball in Indiana would be complete without mention of the "Milan Miracle of 1954." On a cold March night in Butler Fieldhouse, the Indians of tiny Milan High School (enrollment 162) defeated the mighty Muncie Central Bearcats (enrollment 1,662), to win the state championship and secure their place in Hoosier Folklore. Today, a museum in this Ripley County town is doing its best to keep this story alive.

Become A Part of the "Miracle of Milan"
The Milan '54 Inc. Museum Foundation is seeking financial support in order to preserve the "Miracle of Milan"...the high school basketball story from which the movie "Hoosiers" was made.

In the year 2003, a building was purchased in Milan by the Museum Foundation. This building will house numerous basketball artifacts, including print and audio-visuals related to this extraordinary event...but we still need your help!

The new building is in need of interior renovation to adequately house and protect these priceless memories. Currently the museum is temporarily housed in the Krick Building on Carr St in Milan. A row of lockers runs down one wall, each one full of photos, newspapers, letter jackets and other assorted memorabilia from the players and coaches .

Your donation goes directly towards funding this effort and is tax-deductible.
